Analog Devices Uses Open Market Software to Provide Industrial Product Search and Selection Processes on the Web

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Open Market, Inc. (Nasdaq: OMKT), a leading provider of Internet commerce software, today announced that Analog Devices (NYSE: ADI), one of the world's leaders in analog, mixed-signal, and digital signal processing integrated circuits, has licensed and implemented Open Market's LiveCommerce(TM) Internet catalog software. ADI is using LiveCommerce within its revamped Web site (www.analog.com) to facilitate the product search and selection process for its customers -- design engineers from computer and communications OEMs to military, instrumentation, and industrial companies that want technical data on products, quickly and efficiently, with minimal click-throughs.

"Making it easy for customers to do business with your company is a strategic imperative today -- one that ADI clearly understands," said Gary Eichhorn, president and CEO of Open Market, Inc. "We are tremendously pleased that ADI is using our LiveCommerce Internet catalog software to enable their customers to efficiently search for and select the critical parts they need."

"LiveCommerce had the most robust features and functionality of any of the software we evaluated," said Janelle Huemme, interactive marketing manager of ADI. "Our objective is to facilitate an efficient and relevant search process for design engineers. Customers need to get to the technical data using whatever criteria they come into the site with. No other catalog software could provide the cross-search capability, navigational clarity, and flexibility that is so important to our business and our customers."

"Design engineers may come into the site with multiple design criteria. Enabling customers to refine their search using whatever information they have is vitally important. They may use part numbers, electrical parameters, hierarchical search methods, or keywords_the catalog tools can get them to the technical data they need rapidly," Huemme noted.

ADI's product lines are so diverse that the company also needed very flexible software that could support multiple systems. Huemme said that the primary features in LiveCommerce that particularly suited ADI's needs included the software's robustness and power, parametric search capability, content organization methods, and flexible ease of use for customers and within ADI. The decision to implement LiveCommerce also moves ADI further down the path towards electronic commerce on the Web. ADI will post all of its product lines within the new catalog, approximately 8,000 parts.

About LiveCommerce

LiveCommerce enables the rapid and easy development, deployment, and maintenance of commerce-ready industrial catalogs on the Web. LiveCommerce features personalization for customer-specific catalogs, adaptive navigation, including parametric searching, and a flexible authoring environment.

Personalized Presentation and Adaptive Navigation

Because customers want to view a catalog in the way that best suits their requirements and their familiarity with products, companies like ADI use LiveCommerce to create personalized catalog presentations and pricing for each customer or customer segment. The software also features adaptive navigation, allowing customers to search and view the catalog in the way that is most natural for them, including browsing; hierarchical, text, or parametric searching; filtering, sorting, and drilling down to detail; and any combination of these methods.

Flexible Authoring

The software's flexible authoring environment enables a company to create Internet-based catalogs that reflect and reinforce the company's unique value proposition, products, and distribution channels. LiveCommerce comes equipped with easy-to-use design templates that can be customized to reflect each business's corporate or brand identity. LiveCommerce includes a suite of Java-based modules for administrative access to the catalog database. For example, companies can import products, product categories, and attributes into the database as well as define multiple catalog orientations, views, and even valid product configurations that are specific to their business. And, LiveCommerce easily integrates with existing systems via a real-time query API that provides access to existing systems for such time-sensitive information as current pricing and available inventory.

Rich Development, Deployment, and Maintenance Environment

Companies concerned about laboriously building their Internet catalogs need no longer be concerned: LiveCommerce features a rich authoring environment for building and maintaining a catalog. The software features complete application functionality, including built-in industrial application logic, a robust parametric search engine, and a library of more than 50 page display objects. The software stores product information and graphics, all of which can be easily imported and updated. It even generates custom part numbers, configurations, and prices based on valid attribute combinations automatically.
