SA:Woman admitted dumping body: SA court

ADELAIDE, Aug 5 AAP - The mother of a woman accused of murdering a pensioner has told
a court of her shock when her daughter confessed on Christmas Eve to disposing of the
old woman's plastic-wrapped body.

After hearing the confession, Inara Dombrovska said she told her daughter Angelika
Gavare "it was too much and that she should leave".

Gavare, 35, of Christie Downs, is on trial in the Supreme Court in Adelaide after pleading
not guilty to murdering 83-year-old Vonne McGlynn around December 3, 2008.

Through a Latvian interpreter, Mrs Dombrovska told the court on Friday she became suspicious
of her daughter after a visit by police shortly after Ms McGlynn's disappearance in December
2008.

Mrs Dombrovska asked her daughter to explain, and Gavare told her police were asking
questions because Mrs McGlynn had given her permission to access her bank account to renovate
her house while she was away.

"I said that aged people are not in the habit of giving strangers access to their bank
accounts, and that I wanted an explanation of what really happened, and if she was going
to lie to me it was better if we did not speak," Mrs Dombrovska said.

The explanation came at the family's 2008 Christmas Eve celebrations, after Mrs Dombrovska
told Gavare she would not be welcome unless she told the truth.

"She said to me that she had been watching Ms McGlynn for quite a while and she went
to Ms McGlynn's house when Ms McGlynn was out at McDonald's, then made her unconscious
and searched her house," Mrs Dombrovska said.

Gavare told her mother she returned later that same evening and took Mrs McGlynn away.

"She said that she took Mrs McGlynn out of the city, somewhere south.

"She said that she wrapped her in plastic and sheets.

"I said that they would find Mrs McGlynn, and Angelika replied that the police definitely
wouldn't find her."

A few weeks later Gavare told her mother none of that tale was true.

The trial has been told Gavare killed the fiercely independent pensioner out of greed,
wanting to steal her things and sell her house.

Gavare allegedly dismembered Ms McGlynn's body and dumped the pieces in a creek near
her Christie Downs home.

Her head and hands have never been found.
