NSW: Stabbed man staggered 150m before collapsing

By Karen Davis

SYDNEY, Dec 31 AAP - A man who died after a stabbing attack in bushland in Sydney's
south-west overnight staggered 150 metres back to his car before collapsing, NSW police
said today.

Police were called to the intersection of Graham Road and Karne Street at Narwee after
receiving numerous reports of a man screaming, about 11.30pm (AEDT).

The man, whom police are yet to identify, was found near his car, unconscious and bleeding
profusely.

Police officers performed CPR but failed to revive the man, who is believed to be around
32 years of age and from the Merrylands area.

Campsie Local Area Commander Superintendent John Richardson said police believed the
man was stabbed with a knife in bushland at the end of Karne Street before managing to
walk back to his car.

He said no trouble had been reported in the area recently.

"All we know so far is the man was stabbed, he actually walked about 150 metres before
he collapsed," Supt Richardson told reporters in Sydney.

Supt Richardson said police had done a line search of the bushland where the man was
attacked, and were following up several lines of inquiry after canvassing the neighbourhood.

However, "we can't do our job without the public's support," he said.

"Anyone who has seen or heard anything at all should contact police."

Police are yet to determine a motive for the attack or identify why the man was in the area.

Anyone with information on the incident should call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
