Vic: Reports of one dead in house collapse

MELBOURNE, Aug 3 AAP - One person is believed dead after a house collapsed in Melbourne's
inner west today.

Another two people had been taken to hospital, emergency services said.

A Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) spokesman said the house had been raised on stilts
about 1.5 metres off the ground when it collapsed about 10.30am (AEST) today in Lindenow
Street, Maidstone.

"So far the ambulance crews have taken two patients to hospital and there are reports
of one fatality at the site," the spokesman said.

The spokesman said he believed the house was placed on stilts in preparation to move
it to another site when the accident happened.

"Our crews are there allowing access because we have the cutting and rescue gear," he said.
