FED: Govt to balance economic, social concerns on gambling reform

Treasurer WAYNE SWAN says the federal government has to get the balance right between
social and economic concerns .. when it comes to any gambling reforms.

He concedes the states are heavily reliant on gambling revenue.

But Mr SWAN's told Network Ten today .. it's a sensible thing for the prime minister
to sit down with concerned MPs and go over the issues.

Senator-elect NICK XENOPHON is pushing for ATMs to be banned from gambling areas ..

and smart cards to limit the amount players can pump into linked pokie machines.
